The problem with different platforms requiring you to build your custom avatar to their requirements means repeatedly having to take the time to build a reasonable - or preferred likeness.
The avaverse changes that by holding one universal likeness of the user. Brands, educational apps, webmail access this data farmed out in their preferred format.
